3 Years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Thoughts from hitting the 3-year mark of training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Recently I hit the 3-year mark of training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). I know I’ve written about this already, but I can’t stress how much of a game-changer BJJ has been for my life. It’s improved my strength, conditioning, and self-confidence, and has taught me a great deal about humility and patience.

There has been many ups and downs in the BJJ journey. I’ll go months where I feel like I’ve hit a plateau and don’t improve at all. But every BJJ-versary I ask myself “could I beat up myself from one year ago?”. So far, the answer has always been “yes” ๐Ÿ‘.

This year I’d finally like to start competing. I’m fortunate enough to have a good chunk of time off for my parental leave, so I’m hoping to have some extra time for training (if the baby permits ๐Ÿ˜…).
